I feel excited to congratulate my lord, the Honorable Justice Mary Ukaego Peter-Odili JSC for her meritorious service at the Bench and for successfully bowing out of the Supreme Court today, 12th May 2022.
Today marked a watershed in the history of the Nigerian Judiciary as one of the few women to be so elevated to the Apex Court in Nigeria will be bowing out of the Court after attaining the mandatory retirement age.
Although there are lined-up activities for the celebration, it is time for the erudite jurist to take sufficient time to count her blessings, name them one by one, and then rest.
My lord has gone through the ranks at the Bench rising from the High Court to the Court of Appeal and then to the Supreme Court where she rose to become the next in line to the Chief Justice of Nigeria.
There is no doubt that my noble law lord has left her marks in the sand of time as lawyers will, on daily basis, cite her landmark judgments in aid of their cases. To me, this is most fulfilling to generations after her as her words will keep reverberating in many years to come whenever the authorities are cited.
There are several erudite decisions of Honorable Justice Mary U. Peter-Odili JSC that span from the Court of Appeal to the Supreme Court in almost every area of law where she has contributed immensely to the growth of law. Her jurisprudence is waooo.
Time will fail and the space will not be enough to list some of the leading and contributing decisions of Hon. Justice Peter- Odili JSC both at the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court where she spent decades cumulatively.
I wish my lord, the most fruitful and fulfilling years of rest ahead.
From now on, the matriarch of the Odili family will hereafter find time to tend to her grandchildren and other family members.
Once again, congratulations to Hon. Justice Mary Ukaego Peter-Odili JSC for a successful career in the Nigerian Judiciary.
